Behind the Scenes Baja: Episode 8

Our first episode about Tijuana focused on the unexpected: the city's little-known role as the home of the Caesar salad, and super-modern cooking at Mision 19, among other places. But of course, a trip to Tijuana is not complete without sampling some incredible street food!

Our taco crawl (with one unplanned stop at a tiny torta spot that we were told no one should miss) was one of our favorite days of the whole trip. From wood-grilled carne asada to griddled shrimp and cheese to some very unusual "queso tacos" with a layer of crunchy "cheese chicharron," we sampled the range of Tijuana's finest taco creations!

It never fails to amaze me. Here I go again on a wonderful trip to Tijuana without having to leave my home. It has been a very long time since last we visited Tijuana and I was young then so wasn't able to really enjoy. I'm hungry now and we had tacos for dinner yesterday but they don't compare with the looks of those you had. Thank you much for making my day.

wow this looks like soooo much fun! i'd love to travel through mexico and explore the food. Even though I am Mexican American, the food I grew up with is nothing like the real deal in mexico... gosh i'd love to go back. Rick, thanx so much for showing the world what Mexican culture and food really is. ur the best!

I am a proud Tijuanense an I would like to thank the show for comming to this city and showing one of the many bright sides of this place, our city's reputation is misleading and this show proves it.

By the way...It looks like it's gonna be a great episode!! congrats!!

Viewing your episodes, I was at first disappointed that you ignored the 'middle' of Baja - flying from La Paz to Tijuana, as you did...

We've had many enjoyable meals in the most unexpected places while on the road from the US border to Loreto, Baja Sur - and met so many wonderful people...

Then I realized it's OK, as your broadcast exposure of mid-Baja could change those places - just kidding!

We like all of Baja for what it is - somewhat remote in many places, and relatively unspoiled...

Viva Baja!

I´m so pleased that you enjoyed the food in Tijuana. I wish I would´ve stopped by El Mazateño that day, since I live a few blocks away. Big fan of your work, so happy you all came to TJ :)

Love those Tacos from El Yaqui, I'm a San Diegan that grew up in Tijuana, out of all the tacos I've ate, El Yaquiare the most tastefull and greatest of all Tijuana. Know that I move back to San Diego I try to go as much as I can to Tijuana and eat at El Yaqui!!!
